SYMPOSIUM ON BEHAVIOR SYSTEMS: LEARNING, NEUROPHYSIOLOGY, AND DEVELOPMENT Introduction
نویسنده
چکیده
There are a number of useful accounts of learned behavior in animals: a laboratory-associationist approach concerned with general principles of association and reinforcement, principles that hold even in artificial environments and with arbitrary stimuli and responses; an adaptive-evolutionary approach that focuses on the function of learned behavior, both in terms of its local expression and in terms of the evolution of mechanisms and processes that predispose and constrain learning; and a developmental approach that emphasizes changes in processing and behavior that are difficult to reverse, especially those based on early stimulus input. Arguments could easily be made for other worthwhile accounts: for example, a cognitive approach that focuses on memory representations and stimulus processing, and a regulatory approach concerned with maintenance of behavior and compensatory reactions to environmental constraint.

Interaction Between the Cannabinoid and Vanilloid Systems on Anxiety in Male Rats
Introduction: Previous studies have shown that the cannabinoid system is involved in anxiety. In addition, transient receptor potential vanilloid type-1 (TRPV1) channels are new targets for the development of anxiolytics. The present study investigated the possible interaction between the cannabinoid and vanilloid systems on anxiety-like behavior in rats. Methods: Four different groups of male ...
متن کاملHVC neural sleep activity increases with development and parallels nightly changes in song behavior.
Sleep abnormalities are coexpressed with human communication disorders. Recent data from the birdsong system, the best model for human speech, indicate that sleep has a critical role in vocal learning. To understand the neural mechanisms that underlie behavioral changes during sleep, we recorded sleep activity in the song control area HVC longitudinally during song development in zebra finches....
متن کاملSensorimotor Learning Using Active Perception In Continuous Domains
We propose that some aspects of task based learning in robotics can be approached using nativist and constructivist views on human sensorimotor development as a metaphor. We use findings in developmental psychology, neurophysiology, and machine perception to guide a robotic learning system's level of representation both for actions and for percepts. Visually driven grasping is chosen as the exp...

of primates (P. Jay). All chapters have good bibliographies for further reference, and the books are very well indexed and well illustrated. These volumes are unusual among recent primate books in that they contain authoritative up-to-date reviews of both laboratory and field studies, with the emphasis on the former. The orientation to experimental psychology is not surprising since all three e...
متن کاملDevelopment of Symbiotic Brain-Machine Interfaces Using a Neurophysiology Cyberworkstation
We seek to develop a new generation of brain-machine interfaces (BMI) that enable both the user and the computer to engage in a symbiotic relationship where they must co-adapt to each other to solve goal-directed tasks. Such a framework would allow the possibility real-time understanding and modeling of brain behavior and adaptation to a changing environment, a major departure from either offli...
